Mark Ensor - High Country Farmer

“I couldn’t say enough positive things about Sean and how easy he is to deal with.”

For High Country Sheep and Beef farmer Mark Ensor, working with GSI means that while his location may be remote, insurance support is always just a phone call away. Mark and Sean have a longstanding working relationship, where GSI organises comprehensive farm insurance that protects Mark’s buildings, land, equipment and machinery.

“If I buy new equipment, it’s a single phone call, and I’ve got something insured over the phone,” Mark says. “GSI sends out the details in an email, and we just go from there.”

For farmers, weather events represent one of the more significant insurance risks and can happen relatively regularly. In 2021, the Ensors’ farm was affected by significant flooding in the Rakaia area - not once, but twice. Claims Administrator Angela Scott ensured that both claims were quickly organised and approved.

“GSI were on the phone to me two days after the flood,” Mark says, “asking if I had damage. Ange put the claim in and organised it all for us, and five days later, they approved the claim.”

Mark has found the main benefits of working with GSI are saving time, and having a partner on his side when he needs to make a claim.

“It’s all very seamless for me, and I never have to have an argument with the insurance company,” he says. “I have a discussion with GSI, and it’s all sorted for me. It’s so easy to deal with.”

To make sure Mark’s insurance cover remains the best fit for his business, Sean makes an annual visit to the farm, where insurance is discussed over a cup of tea on the front deck.

“We sit down and go over the insurance program and review it to make sure that everything’s relevant,” Sean says. “It’s also a bit of a chance to catch up and say g’day - you generally end up talking insurance after chatting for an hour!”
